The Roaming Gnome

                      The Roaming Gnome
I chose roaming as a theme because I thought it would be cool to get out of the classroom and take pictures elsewhere around the school. I chose the first photo as the title picture because it captivates the viewer. It makes the viewer ask many questions about the story and about the title, such as: “Why is there a gnome on a drum?”, “Why is the gnome a Vikings fan?”, or “Why would someone write a story about a gnome?” Well, the answer to all these questions can only be found within the gnome and it’s mysterious being. The next photo is one that I found quite interesting, the gnome is crawling out of the vending machine in the cafeteria. Perhaps, if you go buy a delicious bag of Cheez-Its to satisfy your craving for a salty snack, you will find something a bit more curious. The next is simple, everyone has to go, don’t they? A gnome’s nature is to be near water, perhaps near a fountain in a garden, or by a fish pond, he was only trying to do what is natural to him...it may be a bit confusing to figure out how the gnome proceeded to climb up the water fountain, but we all have our secrets, I suppose. I am getting a little tired of calling our little friend, “The Gnome”, so shall we give him a name? Fudwick. Well, Fudwick is going a bit out of his element in the next photo, which is one of the gnome’s best traits, mystery. He deceived us into thinking he enjoyed watching the Vikings play football, however, Fudwick has been shooting some hoops behind our backs. We all get a hankering for sitting in a dark cafeteria, don’t we? Fudwick will soon be fulfilling his hunger, I wonder what he eats? Anyway, in the next photo, we see that Fudwick is proving that no matter how furious some Warrior head looks, no one will take his turf. Fudwick is now demonstrating that he is a Jack of All Trades in the next few photos, from building a coffee table with Mr. Dow, to painting a masterpiece in the art room. However, Fudwick’s favorite talent is using his powerful vocal skills to show off his favorite song, Back in Black, by ACDC. The conclusion photo is Fudwick preparing his style for the world to see, he needs to be prepared to show off his beauty. I think that the most effective photo in the story is Fudwick looking at himself in the mirror because it shows us that everyone has self-confidence issues, but if a gnome can overcome them, so can you. Also, the least effective photo would be the one with Fudwick in the traffic cone, it has no real purpose, but does raise a lot of questions. The theme was conveyed very well by the photos chosen because Fudwick was in many different places and each of the places had a purpose. Some of the photos were shown in black and white, others were faded on the edges, and some were boosted, the black and white photos were done so because they were the more serious of the photos, the faded edges developed a sense of dreaminess, and the boosted ones were meant to catch a viewer’s attention. Remember, some gnomes show off their beauty for the world to see, but others hide it so the world will see something else. Think about it.
