L.A Cardinal Roger Mahony was relieved of duties for covering up local priests sexual abuse of children. The abuse was from 1985 till 2011. The files containing damning evidence were found after a 2007 civil suit for sexual allegations. The cardinal and his immediate superior had concocted ways to hide the priests from the police, including sending them out of state. The cardinal remains a "priest of good standing."
My personal opinion is that the cardinal should be facing charges of aiding and abetting, and charges for helping pedophiles get away with it.
