GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance)

I talked with group member Tristan Paulus about GSA, because I was interested to know more about it. GSA stands for Gay-Straight Alliance group. They focus on advocacy (standing up support). It is a group that responds to gay bullying with support and nonviolent counter measures and that promotes equality no matter who or what you are. GSA's goal is to create a place where you can feel safe no matter what.

Paulus said that he started this group at RRMR because there is bullying happening at schools everywhere whether its face to face or cyber bullying. One of the group's objectives is to show and to prove that our school is a place where kids can feel safe regardless of what they believe in and who they are, just like other Gay-Straight Alliance groups in other countries across the United States.

They meet and have speakers come in to educate them on anti-bulling and just to be able to have the general feeling of safety, as well as having group discussions on the topics of bullying and what they can do to stop it.

What they want to improve in the group is connections with larger groups, trust with one another, knowing that everyone is there for one another, and the safety realization of knowing that they can happily go on with their lives, just like other students should be able to do without being bullied in any way.
If you have any questions about GSA or are interested in joining, talk to group member Tristan Paulus.
