The Standoff

In Midland City, Alabama a 5 year old boy got abducted by a war veteran, 65 year old Jimmy Lee Dykes. Dykes had a gun on him and stormed onto the bus, he demanded to have a child, the driver of the bus 66 year old Charles Poland Jr. refused to give him any child and asked if there was anything else he could give him. Dykes wouldn't give in, he shot the driver several times as all 22 kids went into cover. Dykes was able to grab the 5 year old boy and take him hostage in his own underground bunker.   Wednesday was when the standoff began, and that was the date that Dykes was suppose to appear in court for an incident that happened in December with his neighbor. Not a lot of information has been released on the little boy. He does need medication daily for Asberger's syndrome and ADHD. The man agreed to let police put coloring books, crayons and his prescription medication into the bunker. Everyone is now praying that the little boy will come out safe.

My opinion is that if this war vet. had psychiatric problems coming out of the war guns in his life should be out of the option. He must have some psychological problem that would make him do the decisions he chose to do.

2013 Music Trip to D.C.

RRMR Music Department going to Washington D.C.  According to Mrs Koob the RRMR choir instructor said the trip will be leaving Rockford on March 23rd and returning on March 29th of 2013.  Miss Young the RRMR band instructor said that the students chose the location because it offered more opportunities to do things other than just music related activities.  Both the band and the choir will be participating in clinics with colleges in the area around D.C. as well as having performances in the D.C area(locations yet to be decided).  The choir will be performing a mix of quote "crowd pleasers" or songs that people can sing along with.  There will be roughly 50 people from the choir, and 45 people from the band going on this trip, some of the attendees will be participating in band and choir both. Students were offered opportunities to do fundraising to pay for the trip, since the cost of the trip is between 600 and 700 dollars per student. Many students took the opportunity to pay for their trip, although if they didn't want the funds had to come out of their pocket.  In response to how he felt about the bus ride Brandon Emerson replied "its 14 hours each way and I am looking forward to sleeping on the ride." Rooming accommodations at the time are believed to be 4 students per room, and Brandon feels this is acceptable. The current count is 20 attending parents that will be chaperoning the trip.

Wife, Son, Suicide, Tragedy

A 52 year old Las Vegas lieutenant killed his wife and his son, then himself at their home. Police say that he called 911 saying he killed his wife and song, then called to say he was burning his house down and would take the life of anyone who tried to stop him. The lieutenant sat on his front porch and waited until the SWAT team showed up. When they arrived the lieutenant was standing outside with what appeared to be a handgun. The officers commanded him to drop the weapon, but instead he turned around and darted inside the blazing home. Once the firefighters had the fire gone, they searched the house for the bodies. Sadly they found his wife, who was 46 years old and use to work for the Las Vegas police department for a while, they found his elementary aged son, and of course he lieutenants body. They say that last year, 126 police officers killed themselves. In the past 2 years the recent study says that there were 143 in 2009, and 141 in 2008. It is a case of concern now. They tried to find the reasons for this tragedy, they interviewed his partner that he worked with, and he said there was nothing ever wrong, he was a hardworking man. He also said that after this, the memories he had with him means nothing more to him anymore.

This is a really sad story. It's one thing to take your life, but it's another to take others too. I wish their was a reason he had for doing this. I hope this story brightens peoples eyes that maybe not just marines and people who served in the war need psychiatric help, but many other like police officers. They don't see what others see everyday and it can eat them alive like it did to this guy. He just couldn't stand it anymore.

Supreme Court Candidate commits political suicide

Indonesian Judge commits political suicide.Daming Sanusi was asked about applying the death penalty to rapists, and he said "Consideration needs to be taken thoroughly for the imposition of death penalty for a rapist because in a rape case both the rapist and the victim enjoy it."

I think he punished himself enough. He probably lost his job at the next election. He is no longer a candidate for the Indonesian Supreme Court.

Honda Recalls Vehicles

Honda has recalled almost a million vehicles, Honda Pilots produced from 2009-2013, and Honda Odysseys from 2011-2013 Honda said that these vehicles have problems with the driver side airbag and may not go off in an accident and if it does inflate it may not inflate correctly. Honda has said that they will be replacing the airbags in the vehicles specified and will be contacting the owners into next month.

I believe that Honda is doing the right thing by getting these vehicles off the road and fixing them. It's much better for them to spend the money to correct the problems rather than to pay off the owners of these cars and reserve their reputation.

lake mills robbing

Thursday night in Lake Mills there was a robbing that happened about 10 o'clock.  Five people arrested. three of the people were caught for the robbing and on asalt David Rodriguez, Spencer Edwards, and Cory Doyle. two of the people were caught for bedding and aiding. there was a bail set for 25,000 for each of them. i think that it is mean to the two people that they have to pay so much and they didn't even do the crime.

unlucky lottery

Urooj Khan died of cyanide poisoning July 19th they day after he won the Illinois lottery. His family awoke to him kicking and screaming in his home and rushed him to the hospital, where he later died.  At this point in time no suspects have been released.
At this point in time the motive for murder appears to be the 425,000 dollars he collected after taxes. Family and close friends are usually the first major suspects in cases of murder when this quantity of money is involved, so there is a possibility that it was the wife or daughter.http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/07/justice/illinois-lottery-death/index.html

Tebowing to Kaepernicking?

Kaepernicking has become a national news story this week. San Francisco is where the social trend has begun last week after the 49ers won a game leading to the Super Bowl. After the game, people have started Kaepernicking and sending pictures in to the San Francisco Chronicle. I think Tebowing can never be replaced. However, Kaepernicking is a lot simpler to accomplish than the previous Tebowing, especially for the older football fans who find it extremely difficult to make it to their knee and back in respect to Tim Tebow. There are many reasons why Kaepernick is a rising star to watch, including that he was adopted by a couple in Wisconsin after having a failure to conceive. He is also new to the professional football field, just about to begin his ninth career game.

Head Nearly Severed

A Kansas State student form Wichita, Kansas believes he will fully recover after his head was almost severed from his body during a trip to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona to follow his Wildcat team in early January.Michael Tysver was headed back to the hotel with friends when the pedicab he was riding in was hit from behind by a car. The pedicab is a bicycle that pulls a two-seated cart behind it.Michael was clinically dead for a few minutes, his head almost severed from his body, his back in his neck split open.He says it’s the same injury that happens when you are hanged.Michael spent hours in surgery where doctors used pieces of his rib to patch up his backbone. Six days later he was already trying to walk.‘The doctors down there said they never saw anything like this where someone got back on their feet so quick,” he said.“I think I’ll be 100% again. It’s going to take some time,”.”Michael’s friend, Cody Clark suffered severe head trauma during the crash. The driver of the car that hit them has been accused of drunk driving.
I think that the driver should have been charged with a big fine. The kids that got hurt was only trying to have fun in a safe way, when a drunk wasn't paying attention and could have taken both of the children's lives.

Child Drowns in Bathtub

http://fox4kc.com/2013/01/18/kansas-child-8-drowns-in-bathtub/
In Edgerton,Kansas the paramedics were called to the home on East 2300 Road in Southeast Douglas County.Where an eight-year old girl with a history of health problems was pronounced dead Thursday night after she drowned in the bathtub. The girl was unconscious in the bathtub. A neighbor and emergency responders performed CPR to try to revive her, and the treatment continued as she was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.Authorities say her death appears to be accidental. The girl lived with her grandparents.
In my opinion is that the girls grandparents should have maybe watched her a little closer. They also could have checked on her every once an a while, because they knew she had health problems and anything is possible..
I am also sorry for the family's loss.

minn. women flips her car on the ice

A women in Minn. was trapped in her car for 18 hours until a bicyclist came by and called for help. 67 year old  Nancy Breberg was driving and her car flipped on its top and she was not able to get the doors open. Nancy was taken to the hospital and she was fine and the only thing she got was frost bite on her feet. i think that she was really lucky that the ice didn't brake and she didn't go in to the water. I think that she must be a tough old bird for flipping a car and not even get hurt.

Ford Adding Jobs

Ford is planning to add over 2,200 salaried jobs this upcoming year. They are planning to add to their product line of fuel efficient vehicles and expand their factories, and this is why they need more workers. Ford car sales have rose 13.4% in 2012 alone and they have had to produce more vehicles.

This is very good for the economy and for Ford motor company. Hopefully this is the start of the rise in the economy and more jobs for other companies to start to rise. This is also very good from the mechanic standpoint being that they wont have to work so hard because they will have more help.

Flu 2013

Flu rates have been at an all time high during the 2012-2013 flu season in the U.S. The flu has been affecting many U.S. citizens and the rate of success for the vaccine is only between 50 and 70 percent.  Currently the death toll is at 20 citizens under the age of 18, possibly dozens more adults, but the CDC does not count flu related adult deaths.

The spread of flu and other sicknesses can be slowed by practicing proper hygiene, and with the current state of epidemic this may be extremely helpful. If you wish to get the flu vaccine it may be beneficial to your health, but there is still the chance you may catch one of the other strains of the virus.http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/11/health/us-flu-season/?hpt=hp_c1

Kidnapped boy found 18 years later

Richard Wayne  Landers Jr was kidnapped by his Grandparents in 1994 in Indiana, and was found in Minnesota 18 years later. He was kidnapped in Indiana when he was only 5 years old. He was found married, well, and having his first child on the way in Minnesota with a changed name. His Grandparents took him because they were mad about custody arrangements and how it was still proceeding in court. Parents dropped the charges against the Grandparents and continued with help for the search of their son. In September they found a guy using the same SS number as the missing kid in October 18 years ago. They continued their search for him in Minnesota. The Grandparents were found in Browerville Minnesota under different names and admitted that they took and raised Richard and their actual names. Parents were happy that they finally were reconnected with their missing child and they have closure.

This is a really confusing story to me. How didn't they find him if the Grandparents had him? Didn't they ever see their parents or since they moved and changed their names they were missing to them too? Why'd the parents drop the charges on the Grandparents years before they found their son? They kidnapped and dropped off the face of the earth and they're not going to charge them with anything? Especially when they found the Grandparents in 2008 and they still denied having the child until 5 more years.

Probable or Not?

Philip Dean Brock murdered Terry Brazil Dec. 11, 2012. Reasoning behind it is unknown, but may be linked to additional grand theft charges.  Terry was Beaten, shot, and stabbed, while bound with duck tape.  Philip was arrested due to DNA found on the duck tape that bound Terry's wrists. In my opinion Philip most like would not have been caught if it wasn't for the DNA on the duck tape. The adhesive on the duck tape is notorious for retaining finger prints, hair, and skin cells, all of which contain DNA.http://www.newsherald.com/news/crime-public-safety/bcso-dna-duct-tape-connects-suspect-to-victim-1.72254

"Lincoln" ahead of Oscar nominations

Steven Spielberg's film, "Lincoln", has topped nominations for an Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards on Thursday, January 10th. The film, which released the fall of 2012 is about Abraham Lincoln and the battle to end slavery. I think the film was incredible, although I am interested in history and especially the history of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. It is a bit hard to follow and a lot of talking, but the content is amazing if one can pay attention and gets into the movie very early. I would rate the film a 4.8 out of 5 stars.

Villain or Hero?

Last month, one Californian school is taking it's name from a 19 century villain, Tiburcio Vasquez. The Salinas mayor voiced his opinion about how he thinks it could be named after someone else. Vasquez terrorized southern California for years. But the school believes that he was a hero to the Hispanic community and fought against injustice.
I think that there could have been someone else they could have named the school after. Why someone that terrorized southern California?http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/03/us/california-school-name-controversy/index.html?hpt=us_c2

Pilot arrested

A pilot in minnesota was arrested today after a witness smelled alcohol on his breath. After failing initial breath tests he was escorted to a hospital for blood tests. The pilot has chosen to remain anonymous at this time. The airline is launching their own internal investigation.
I believe that depending on the alcohol levels he may or may not have been legally drunk as the levels differ for pilots and drivers (0.4 to 0.8). I don't think that an internal investigation will do any good, they will just say that their "evidence" concurs with the police's.

Bank warns of cyber attacks

The PNC bank of New York warns many of its online bankers that they may not be safe banking online because of all of the online attackers. There has also been many other warnings from many other banks to not use online banking or make sure that your site is secure. For now the bank is postponing a percentage of their banking community until their online program until the problem is solved. In my opinion I think that they should just go to the bank to do their banking that way they can still do all of their banking and make sure that it is secure and don't have to worry about attackers. On-line banking while it is convenient can be very dangerous and could lead to many people loosing alot of money.

Woman Says She Was Raped by Man She Met Online

A unidentified woman said she was raped by a man she had met online. On Friday,  January 4, 2013  in a car near 56th Street and Norton in Kansas City , Missouri.  In her description of him, the woman said the man had numerous rings on his fingers. He was driving an older model red, four-door Chevy Cavalier, which had a cross hanging from a black string on the rear view mirror. She also said he lived near the Landing Mall. She described him as a dark-skinned black male, 5’11″, 220 pounds. He was wearing a black hat and a gray peacoat.

I hope that this man gets caught if he actually did this to her. I also think that you should have not met someone she only knows online. You never know what someone can do, or if they are lying about something they told you. Its probably safer to just stick with people you know face to face.

New Kind of Children's Hospital

A new kind of children's hospital has opened just outside Orlando, Florida. Dr. Lane Donnelly describes Nemours as "a hospital garden", which opened on October 22, 2012. The children admitted to the hospital can pick the color of their room and what color of light that will be on at night. I think the new hospital is a great place for children to relax and not worry so much about the illnesses that have kept them from peace before. The children can laugh and run and play just as normal children do at Nemours, the hospital allows the children to have fun while having treatment.http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/03/health/new-childrens-hospital-parenting/index.html?hpt=us_t4

A little innocent 22 month old girl that lived in chicago, IL had her foot bound by her father. The dad of this little girl Andre Curry was sentenced probation and also has to go thought parenting classes plus a drug screening once a week. Curry posted this picture on Facebook for every one to see what he had done. I think that he should not be able to get this little girl back because what happens next time if he decides to do something worse. Besides people loose there kids all the time for doing stuff that is less harmless.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement lead to disturbing but thankful news

An international operation led by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that were working on child pornography and sexual abuse has led to the arrests of 245 suspects since Thursday. All but 23 of the suspects were located in the United States. They figured that 123 children were being exposed and abused and 44 of those children were removed from their homes. Some of the people that were found, were exposed as children but are now found adults living their life. These children were mostly younger, five of them were under the age of 3, nine were between the ages of 4 and 6. Of the 123 victims, 110 of them lived in the U.S. the other 6 countries where there were arrests made was not said. These arrests have been made over the past 3 years, and are still tracking down more. They found pictures, matched the pictures to different places in the world. A 16 year old boy took a picture of a 11 year old girl on the corner and said he planned to rape her behind the van, The Operation Sunflower took that photo and found the girl.

I think people are sick. It is not right at all to do that kind of thing to innocent children. It scares me more than anything while I read this that there is really that many sex-offenders in the world, that we know of so far. It's scary to be living in a world with online dating, bars, clubs, or anywhere to go to meet new people. You have no idea who you're going to be running into. It's sad that those innocent 3 to 3 to 6 to adults had to grow up with a life of torture when they were young.. something they won't forget as adults, but will be thankful for the technology we have at this day to find them and keep them safe from anymore of their body parts being exposed or touched.
